A special card

Hi there ~

A few posts ago I said I would take a pic of BFF's b'day card to me. Here it is using Melon Mambo & Certainly Celery. Pink is BFF's colour while green is mine so we tend to do most things in pinks and greens, including our craft room accessories and bits and pieces. I really like this card and can't wait to CASE it.

Have I mentioned I'm really missing crafting? Soooo much time on my hands and so little being achieved - such a waste. I'm really kind of bummed that I can't make all the little Easter treats, packaging, cards and tags that I usually do at this time of the year.

Thanks for stopping by today.

More 'handmade'

Evening all ~

It's been a fairly exhausting day for me. I spent a number of hours at the hospital today - thanks Trish for sitting with me and making myself and all the staff laugh. More x-rays, cutting off the horrid back slab cast I've had on for just over a week (very happy to see that one go), bit of a chat with the specialist about options, pros and cons etc. The decision we made today was to avoid surgery at this stage - apparently there are no guarantees that the surgery and bone grafting will fix my wrist any more than waiting will.

So I now have a 'fancy' blue waterproof cast on. It's much lighter than the other one - thankfully! It's slightly lower on my hand too which gives me a little more four finger movement - yay! Review is in four weeks and I am under STRICT instruction not to scratch any itches with a knitting needle ARGGHHHHH how is that going to be possible. If I do I will puncture the lining (which cost me $37 strangely) and it defeats the whole purpose as I'll no longer be waterproof. I'm so looking forward to showering without all the fuss, bagging up and one armed washing I've been doing to date.

I have to say I feel happier tonight than I have since I broke the silly thing. Bit more freedom too because I get to lose the sling for a few hours at a time AND I am able to reduce the nasty pain meds.

Downside to it all is that I'm not likely to ever get the same movement back in my wrist and will have to learn to live with the limited movement I end up wth. Was truly hoping this wouldn't be the case and even expressed to the Dr that I MUST be able to craft again soon lol. Oh well, could be worse I guess.

Here is another pic of some handmade cards I received for my birthday. Unfortunately I haven't had time today to photograph BFF's card, so that will have to wait for now.

The card on the left was made by Tanya K and the Razzleberry card on the right is from Carole S - notice some new goodies there? Ah huh there is a new mini due for release on 1 April. A major perk being a SU! demo is getting to see all the new goodies a month ahead of time and being able to pre-order and play. I'm still looking at my pre order bits and pieces :o( they arrived about the same day I had my fall.

I hope to be back tomorrow and may even share a pic of my 'fancy' new cast - while it's new and clean lol.

'Handmade'

Hi all ~

As a SU! demo I belong to a Yahoo group called ESAD (extremely special Aus/NZ demos) which is a forum that gives us the opportunity to share ideas, get excited about new products together, help and advise each other etc. They are a lovely bunch of ladies who continuously amaze me with their talent, kindness and generosity.

I received a number of cards from other stampers that I have not spoken to or met. My b'day details just popped up from the ESAD database and these lovely members took the time to create and mail a card to me. I felt very spoilt at such a kind act.

The first two I'm showing are from Kris (turquoise card) and Sherylee (kiwi card) who incidently shares the same b'day as me. Happy birthday for yesterday Sherylee! I'll post more pics tomorrow, including BFF's gorgeous creation.

Speaking of which, I have my third hospital visit tomorrow. They will be checking on how much the swelling around my wrist has reduced and making a decision on whether they go ahead with surgery or not. It will depend on whether the bones have moved much whilst I've had the temporary cast on - which I must say has been a huge pain in the butt! It's soooo heavy. Apparently the permanent cast will be much lighter because it's fibreglass (as opposed to plaster). I believe I'll have a bit more freedom and movement also which will be a good thing! Dear friends continue to assist me daily with various basic needs. Anyone who knows me knows I am fiercely independent and find it extremely difficult to ask for anything let alone help! It continues to be a humbling experience :o)

Show and Tell

Seems such a long time between posts. Between my right arm being out of action, and the pain meds which knock me around and make me dopey, I find just contemplating getting on the computer exhausting.

Today is my birthday, which you probably already know if you read BFF's blog Spring Blossom Journey :o)

My lovely friend Karen sent me this gorgeous basket filled with lots of choccies and individual stamps - you'll note my photography skills are right back to basics at the moment lol, so I haven't even got a pic of all the goodies (it took unbelievable effort just to get this pic!). We all know how clever and talented Karen is - but how cute is this little treasure??? And I love the Sweet Slumber specialty dsp!

I have more 'handmade' to show you but as I'm not able to craft myself at the moment I thought I'd spread a post or two over the next few days.

Hope you're all having a lovely weekend!

My Little Mishap

Hi everyone ~

A very quick post today (because I'm one finger typing with my left hand) to let you know things are going to be a little quiet here for a few weeks. On Thursday afternoon while mopping my floor I slipped and landed very hard on tiles with my full body weight on my right hand. The result is a broken wrist! Not just a simple break either - of course - this one requires surgery and metal plates/pins. I never do things by halves!

I was at the hospital for several hours on Thursday afternoon/evening, coming home with a back slab cast on. The swelling was so great that they were unable to do the required surgery and set it in a temporary cast. I've had a huge supply of heavy duty pain meds and quickly realised how incapacitated I now am. Thank goodness I have the most wonderful friends. They've driven me back and forth, taken care of my son, prepared food, cleaned my house, done washing, assisted me with showering, washed my hair....the list is endless and I am so so grateful!

I've spent half of today back at the hospital, having more xrays and fasting with the expectation of having the surgery. But no, still too swollen. I now have a new double strength temporary back slab cast on and will wait a few more days....

I am amazed and dismayed at how little I can do for myself. Being right handed and now having it out of action is very difficult. We tend to take the simplist things for granted I now realise. Not looking forward to having to put my signature to something in the near future lol. Most of all no crafting...I'm most upset about that, particularly now that I'm sitting around resting and doing little else.

Will keep you posted!

Mojo Monday 129

Hi everyone ~

I've completed my first Mojo Monday sketch challenge! Would love to know what you think :o)

You can't really see it in the pic, but I've 'popped' the rose up as well as the panel it's sitting on. Looks nicer irl.

I've used:

Cardstock/DSP: Riding Hood Red, Pink Pirouette, Whisper White, Bella Rose
Stamps: Fifth Avenue, Fresh Cuts
Inks: Versamark, Craft Whisper White
Other: Riding Hood Red taffeta ribbon, clear emboss powder, heat tool, snail, dimensionals

Curtain Call Colour Challenge, Act 20

Hi and happy Tuesday ~

I'm really enjoying trying the different challenges I'm finding. This is my first colour challenge and it was surprisingly easy for me - I've always shied away from colour challenges preferring to stick with 'what I like'. Perhaps this one was easy because they are colours I like, although haven't necessarily put together before.

I found the challenge here at Stacey's Stamping Stage, Curtain Call Colour Challenge Act 20

Sorry for the blur!

I made a flowerpot card using the following SU! items:

Cardstock: Real Red, Whisper White
Ink: Real Red, Bashful Blue, Certainly Celery
Stamps: Petal Pizzazz & Best Yet
Other: Button Latte, Certainly Celery ribbon, Eyelet border punch, glue dots, snail, dimensionals

It's been raining and pouring...

Hi there ~

You'll have to excuse the excitement...it doesn't rain often in Canberra so when it does my son loves to celebrate by running about and rolling on the wet grass - note how green it is - it doesn't usually look like this! He was having a great time outside yesterday afternoon - mind you he doesn't have to do the washing afterwards lol.

I do have craft to show you, however, it's been too dull to photograph this weekend - and we know I don't do that well at the best of times. I don't have all the fancy software to 'pretty' my pics up so I post exactly what I snap, no alterations!

Speaking of craft, my pre order of the Autumn mini catalogue arrived today - thank goodness my courier man works on public holidays! I was hoping it would be here last Friday, and even stalked the local Post Office in the hope it was sitting there waiting...after all the excitement I haven't even played with any of it. I've had a foul headache all afternoon, it wouldn't budge and it's no fun to craft when your head is throbbing :o(

I hope everyone has had an enjoyable weekend!

Clean & Simple #81

Happy Saturday!

I love the simplicity of this weeks Sketch at Clean & Simple. I started with a base of Choc Chip textured cardstock and used colours/sticky die cuts from the SU! Sweet Nothings Simply Scrappin' kit - gorgeous little package that one! Because it is so c&s I decided to add a little extra to my envelope and the inside of my card - again keeping with the c&s idea.

Hope you like!

I got a mention...

Over here at Late Night Stampers Blog Find of the Day! How super exciting. Thanks Kelly!

Sweet Treat Cups

Hi everyone

I've been holding on to these cute little cups for ages now. I have this habit of 'collecting' lots of gorgeous crafty bits and pieces and hording rather than using them. I think most of the thrill for me is to purchase all the nice ribbons, papers and embellishments.... I never seem to want to 'waste' them on this card or that. I have to constantly remind myself that I have all these gorgeous things to use!!! Sitting gathering dust is not what they're here for! So finally I broke open the little cups and made a few of these flowers for the girls I'm going to craft retreat with at the end of March.

As you can see my photography skills haven't improved too much over the past week. I'm working on it........lol.

I wish I could say I came up with this nifty flower idea all by myself - but the very talented Marelle Taylor did, see her bright assortment here! I've seen lots of different ideas for the cups, including using them for jewellery, coins and gardening seeds. I imagine there are a thousand more out there. I'll definitely be keeping a stash on hand.

We have the Canberra day long weekend coming up so I'm looking forward to lots of crafting, reading and relaxing. Rain is forecast, hooray, let's hope we get it. Things are starting to look a little green here which is a very welcome change. I'd love to hear your weekend plans?

Patchwork Bella Rose

Hi and happy hump day ~

My all time favourite dsp (designer series paper) is Bella Rose so as you can imagine I have lots and lots of little 'bits' piling up in my drawer. I've been playing around with scraps and this is what I've come up with. I'm not sure I like it yet, but I guess that happens when you're not cutting into the 'new' stuff :o)

I've layered Pink Pirouette on Riding Hood Red cardstock and used one of the images from the current SAB (sale-a-bration) set Vintage Labels. I've also used the chocolate chip double stitched grosgrain ribbon.

I'd be interested in what you think so leave me some comment love (beautiful K - I think you're the only one out there reading lol).

Claytons Nursery Necessities

Good morning

I found out just the other day that a family friend is having a baby. It's a little boy, due in May and will be born in mum's hometown of Sweden. So had to whip something up fairly quickly to send on the plane this week. I realised I'm in short supply of baby stamps so decided to 'make' the boat from Nursery Necessities out of cardstock. I used my white gel pen to give a little definition. I think it turned out pretty well :o)

I've used:
Stamps: Short & Sweet
Cardstock: Baja Breeze, Whisper White, So Saffron
DSP: Sweet Slumber
Ink: Baja Breeze, So Saffron
Other: So Saffron ribbon & button, 1 3/4" circle punch

I have another little something to show you, but the washing, breakfast dishes, beds.....are all calling for now. Hopefully back later!

Enjoy your Tuesday!
